Anyone wanting to referee or umpire for Carbondale Junior Sports will register.

As each season approaches, the Field Director for the sport and/or a representative of Carbondale Junior Sports will review the needs for officials and contact those registered. Scheduling and hiring of officials is at the discretion of Carbondale Junior Sports. Registration does not guarantee a registrant will be hired to officiate for Carbondale Junior Sports. In general, an officiant should be at least two years older than the participants in the game being officiated. Exceptions to this will be at the discretion of Carbondale Junior Sports.

Upon registration, adult officials will receive a link from "protectouryouth" and be required to submit annually for a background check as outlined in the Background Check Policy on the General Information tab on the CJS website. All officials will also be required to take a concession awareness training. Officials will email a completion certificate to [email protected].

If an official is registered and approved through the IHSA, the background check and concession awareness will be waived, UPON RECEIPT OF PROOF OF IHSA REGISTRATION. Please email to [email protected].

Officiants are expected to understood that the Carbondale Junior Sports leagues are recreational and educational. Officiants should not only officiate the game but should also use the opportunity, when appropriate, to educate players and coaches on the rules and laws of the games. Officiants are expected to control the game and playing area to ensure the safety of all participants. Please review the Code of Conduct and Expectations on the General Information tab of the CJS website.

Officiants are encouraged to obtain local or national certifications for their sport. Pay will be based on certifications.
